Sherfield Parish Council has received the following information from the contractor for the Bramley Road roadworks, DNOC (info@dnoc.co.uk). Neither Bramley nor Sherfield Parish Councils received any prior warning to or consultation for these roadworks before the signs first appeared in Sherfield on 9/11/23, and both Councils have been working together to obtain the necessary information to pass on to residents. Bramley Parish Council has to date received no communication from DNOC. They have yesterday (20/11) apologised in writing to our Borough ward councillor for the ‘short notice ‘ and stated that they will contact Bramley Parish Council ‘without delay’. Bramley PC has not received anything as yet, although we have written to DNOC requesting information.
Contractor (DNOC) summary of Sherfield road works
- What are you doing and why? This project is to connect a new solar park which is currently under construction off Bar Lane/Bottle Lane, Hook to the substation on Sherfield Road. The 33Kv cable will be adopted by the Distribution Network operator – SSE as a reinforcement to their existing electricity network.
- Why are you using a road closure rather than temporary traffic lights? Bramley Road is unfortunately not wide enough to accommodate two way lights and leave a sufficiently wide safety margin for the workforce who are often in trenches at or very close to head height.
- Are you closing the whole road off at the same time? No, we will undertake the work in phases. The first will be from the substation to the Bramley Road side of Brook Bridge a distance of around 300m. as we progress into the residential area of Bramley Road we will write to the individually affected properties to provide detail of what to expect in particular any specific local traffic management arrangements.
- How long will the works take to complete? We will start work on Monday 20/11/2023 and continue to the Xmas embargo on the 18/12/2023 when we will reopen the road to traffic for the Christmas period. We recommence work on 03/01/2024 – 24/01/2024. At a request by the Parish Council we will open the road for the annual Tractor Run on Saturday 17/12/2023.
- What is happening to the regular bus service? We have arranged for Stagecoach to put on a temporary service for the period of the road closure. Details for this can be found here: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-16/11/2023-17:06:33:036
