Bramley Parish Council Allotments
Welcome to the Bramley Parish Council Allotments page. Bramley is fortunate to have two allotment sites:
- St James Park (off Minchens Lane)
- Gray’s Meadow, Silchester Road
Each site offers 24 half-size plots, giving a total of 48 allotments for local residents.
Why Choose an Allotment?
Allotments—once known as garden plots—are a fantastic opportunity for those with limited or no garden space to grow their own fruit, vegetables, and flowers. They promote healthy eating, physical activity, and a connection to nature.
Waiting List & Commitment
If you’re interested in applying, please be aware:
- Allotments are in high demand and waiting times can range from 1 to 5 years.
- Maintaining a plot requires several hours each month—it’s a rewarding but time-consuming commitment.
Community & Conduct
By accepting a plot, you’ll join a community of like-minded growers. We ask all allotment holders to:
- Keep plots tidy and free of weeds
- Avoid shading neighbouring plots
- Respect fellow gardeners and shared spaces
Pesticide-Free Growing
The Parish Council does not support the use of pesticides. Many plot holders grow organically, and chemical runoff during rain can contaminate neighbouring plots. We encourage natural and sustainable gardening methods.
What You Can Install
On your plot, you may install:
- A sentry box-style shed for tools
- A small, non-glass greenhouse
Within 6 months of allocation, your plot should be ready for cultivation.
Insurance
We recommend taking out insurance for damage or injury. This is available through the National Allotment Society.
